Summer adventures in Jotunheimen at Gjendesheim
Summers in Norway's heartland is light and active. Located by the foot of world famous Besseggen ridge, Gjendesheim offers easy access to adventures in spectacular surroundings. Gjendesheim is an excellent place to spend the summer days and fall weekends, especially for families with short feet and high hopes about mountain adventures.
Opening hours
Throughout the summer season, Gjendesheim is open daily from June 7th thorughout to the autumn. Check out our activities, courses and events – and look forward to delicious local food with a spectacular view. Gjendesheim is easily accesed by car yeat round. Welcome to Norway's Winter Wonderland!

Activities
Hiking trails, summits and the world famous Besseggen ridge - alone or in company with one our skilled guides. Embarking on a cruise at iconic lake Gjende or endulging in local cuisine og in our wood fired hot - tub. Private rooms and bunk beds, the choice is yours!
Guide
With one of our charming and competent guides in your group, we guarantee you a great hike. Gjendeguiden offers mountain and summit hikes, Besseggen tours, courses in winter activities, family hikes – and may also tailor make trips on request.
Hikes
Choose between pleasant day hikes and longer "expeditions". The Gjende area in Jotunheimen highlands offers everything from easy, family friendly hikes to demanding summits. From the doorstep at Gjendesheim, the possibilities are unlimited!
Equipment rental
Are you up for a new summer activity in the Norwegian mountains? Gjendesheim has a broad selection of trail bikes and fat bikes and all necessary equipment for rental. In the reception you can buy basic outdoor equipment. Left click on the picture and take your pick!
Booking for activities, courses and guided tours
To sign up for a course, arranged tour or other activity, you need to send the following information in an email to info.gjendesheim@dnt.no:
- Name of the activity
- Day of the activity
- Name for the person booking, membership number for DNT (if you have one), email, phone number and address.
When you book, you will receive an invoice with the cost of the stay by email. When this is paid, the reservation is confirmed.
If you only receive a confirmation, and not an invoice, you do not need to pay in advance.
